Dhooge Design is a family owned and operated custom woodwork and metalwork business based in Tiffin, Iowa. Mac and Nicole Dhooge, along with their three boys, design and build quality furniture using either new materials or reclaimed wood.
Our passion for creating beautiful pieces of furniture started out as a fun, little project for two newlyweds. Over twenty years ago, we built our first dresser at Nicole’s grandparents’ dairy farm. We still use that dresser in our bedroom today! Since then, we’ve grown into a business that loves a design challenge. We specialize in crafting unique pieces to fit each client’s needs. In 2013, Mac and his mom started dismantling barns that were beyond repair. This was the beginning of our love of designing beautiful new pieces out of barnwood, beams, and shiplap.

Our Process
Put Your Ideas Together
Let us know what you’re dreaming of by sending us your ideas. Share any pictures that inspire you through Pinterest, Google, Instagram, or Houzz. Send in any measurements you’ve got, and we’ll start sketching out the project.
Final Design and Quote
We’ll exchange messages back-and-forth with you, collaborating to discuss design, the materials, and the pricing. If necessary, we can also organize on-site measurement.
Queue Up the Order
Once everything is arranged, you pay a 50% retainer and production can start. Every project is hand-made to your exact specifications, so expect us to reach out to you with updates or questions. We provide our best completion time estimates, but keep in mind that building can be an unpredictable process. Our average lead time is 10-14 weeks.
Pickup or Delivery
Once the project is done, we can arrange for either pickup or delivery. If personally picking up the item, be sure to bring blankets and tie-downs. If having the item delivered to your doorstep, we can offer a few carriers that we’ve worked with before for you to choose from, but the choice is yours. We do not cover transportation costs.

The staircase Mac designed and assembled for the Brooklyn Opera House is stunning. We needed a portable staircase to get guests on our Opera House stage from the general seating area. Our stairs needed to be easily removed for some events, but easy to lock in place for other events. We did not want to take away seating and we wanted the styling, wood tones and grain to tie in to the overall look and feel of our historic venue. Mac did an outstanding job of engineering a staircase that met all those demands. It fit the overall look and feel of our space and provided all the functionality we needed. Mac was outstanding to work with. The quality, design, price and turnaround time also exceeded our expectations.
